Remembering those we lost in 2024

2025-01-03

2024 was a bittersweet year for LAJAM. On the one hand, we published two great issues, our first Special Issue on the Biology and Conservation of Manatees (Vol. 19 No. 1) and a regular issue with 11 contributions published in Nov (Vol. 19 No. 2). On the other hand, two of our friends and fellow LAJAM Editorial Committee members passed away unexpectedly this year, Armando Jaramillo-Legorreta in August and Eric Ramos in early December. Both joined LAJAM as Associate Editors in 2021 and were active participants handling and reviewing papers in both issues published this year. You can read about their extraordinary lives in our In Memoriam for Armando published in November and Eric published in Early View today. While certainly a great loss for LAJAM and the greater Latin American marine mammal family, we are strengthened by the legacy they both leave behind in their work.

Published since 2002, LAJAM is the scientific peer review journal of the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Especialistas en Mamíferos Acuáticos (SOLAMAC). In 2011 LAJAM ceased its print version and became an online-only publication.

LAJAM publishes research articles on the biology, management, and conservation of the aquatic mammals in Latin America. Articles on theory or techniques that are widely applicable to the study of aquatic mammals will also be considered even when the research has taken place outside of Latin America. LAJAM also publishes special volumes dedicated to specific species or topics.
