All the energy we require in lifeFloraspring is attained from the food and fluids that we consume. The nutrients contained in these foods and drinks are normally broken down into three classes: fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. It is important that we eat foods from each category. The topic of debate is in what ratio they should be taken. Though dietary fats are often held responsible for a number of health problems, they are a vital nutrient for good health. To start with, stored fats usually cushion and insulate the internal organs, cover nerves and transport vitamin throughout the body. It is also the main reserve for the stored energy, which is required to carry out activities. However, care should be taken in maintaining the favorable levels of fats. Once in excess it can lead to health problems and affect athletic performance. There are the saturated fats, which can be acquired mainly from animal sources like meat, yogurt, egg yolk, milk and butter. Under normal circumstances, they are usually solid at room temperatures. Excess saturated fats have been held responsible for diseases like heart disease and high cholesterol. Therefore, daily intakes must not exceed 10 %. The unsaturated fats consist of the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, attained from plant food. These are normally liquid at room temperatures. They help in lowering cholesterol levels thereby reducing the risk of suffering from heart disease. The major sources of these fats are avocados, olive and canola oil, almonds and soybeans. Then there are the trans-fats, which are created by solidifying unsaturated fats. They should be consumed in limited levels to cumber risks of increased cholesterol levels and heart diseases. These are often associated with junk food and other partially hydrogenated oils.
