Imagine a situation where you are not able to remember your parents name or your most favorite sport's name. Nuculture Review Sometimes you even forgot the place where you are staying now or with whom you are spending time. People used to come across problems like this in their life and forgetting things can sometimes be considered as god's gift also, if that is for a good cause. But, when anyone started forgetting things in a daily manner, then it can be a cause of concern and we can assume it as early sign of Alzheimer's disease.Alzheimer's disease is mostly seen in people above the age of 65 years. As age increases the chances for getting this ailment also raises and by the age of 85 years more than half of the people belonging to that age group will have affected by it. Based on the fact that, women's life span is more than men, ladies are more prone to this disease.A survey conducted by an association working on this disease and its causes gave us terrific information on this regard. According to that organization, nearly 35 million people around the world have Alzheimer's disease, and this is the fifth leading cause for death. When a person completes 65 years his chance for being diagnosed with Alzheimer's diseases nearly doubles every five years. In the US, nearly 5.3 million people have this disease and this can be roughly 54% of the total population. The report also states that in every 70 seconds someone in America will get affected with Alzheimer's and if this continues, nearly 19 million Americans will fall prey to this ailment by 2050.People in their early stage of this diseases show symptoms like unexplained mood swings, changes in personality, short term memory loss, confusion etc. This disease is one form of dementia that get worsen as time passes. This progressive neurologic disease mainly affects memory, thinking, and behavior process. In a normal person, chemical messengers called neurotransmitters help brain cells to communicate with each other. But person affected with this disease will have fewer amounts of neurotransmitters; thereby brain can't send messages effectively. Those going through the second stage of this disease will become disabled, though they can still perform simple task by themselves. In this stage, they will forget recent activities, become more confused and move away from reality.
